Alex Frei
Alex was born in Vancouver and raised internationally. He holds an honours degree from UBC, where he studied a broad range of subjects. Alex is deeply interested in economics. He is the team leader of the Lions Bay Search and Rescue team which he has volunteered with for more than 15 years, and he sits on the board of directors of the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce. Alex has worked in many industries including finance, tourism, and education. He owns an information technology consulting company and undertakes entrepreneurial ventures which is how he makes his living.
The crux of direct democracy is not that the citizens maintain their sovereign rights, but rather that the citizens think like the sovereign. Alex has always thought it to be self-evident that the more power people have over their lives and communities the more enfranchised they are. Only when people have true power do they understand true responsibility, and only through this can a people or nation achieve its potential.
Alex has had the good fortune of living in both Canada and Switzerland. He has been able live in, and participate in the system of direct democracy in Switzerland. Of course being a resident of British Columbia, Alex has lived under British Parliamentarianism, aka the Westminster system, in Canada. From this experience Alex has become compelled to do whatever he can to bring about democratic change in Canada and British Columbia. Alex supports the BC Refederation Party because it is the only BC provincial party that will allow the voters to control their politicians.
